Do you assume that, whenever you put yourself first, you’re being selfish? Do you tend to do what you think other people expect of you, rather than what you want to do yourself? So many of us give up our lives and hearts’ desires to satisfy and please others.

Women are especially prone to this in motherhood. We often have children and husbands whom we always put first. But you still need to be the core person — and your needs are just as important as everyone else’s.

It may be that in childhood you entered training for a profession that your parents wanted for you, which was not of your own choosing. It can be hard to stand up to such pressure when you’re young — but now is your chance to change profession and follow your heart.

How do you change limiting beliefs into positives?

Attitude is the key. Imagine a football team going out to play a game, believing they are not going to win! What would be the point of the game?

Someone with big non-limiting beliefs will achieve big non-limiting things. Someone with small beliefs will achieve small things. That, too, is acceptable because small things can lead to bigger things — it just takes longer. There is also the advantage of taking one small step, then another, until you reach the top of your ladder. Small steps are believable and therefore achievable.

Another way to challenge a limiting belief is to question its validity. When you question something enough, and gather contrary evidence, you begin to doubt it. Ask yourself, In what way is my belief absurd? If I kept this belief, what would it cost me? What caused me to have this belief in the first place?

By questioning your limiting beliefs you can develop an empowering belief about the situation or the thing you want.

You have to plant a seed in your own head first, for it to grow. For example, if you plant a bamboo seed, water it, tend it and look after it, nothing happens for six long years. And then suddenly it grows twenty feet in six weeks!

Passion and purpose

Nothing on this Earth is more powerful than passion and purpose. When you plant your seed to our purpose, passion ignites. Following your true calling in life — doing what you love — is the reason you are here. I believe that, underneath the surface, everyone has a seed waiting to grow. You need to water it and let the sunshine do the rest.

Unfortunately, many of us do not know what we want to do, so we just drift. It can be difficult if you don’t feel a strong pull towards something. Even when you do, it can take a huge amount of courage, self-belief and a determination to succeed — but it is worth every single thought, every small step and all the hard work.

Everyone’s passion and purpose will be different but we each have a unique role to play in this world. Your role might be based on a musical or artistic talent.
